reader advisory

Every piece I publish on my website comes with a Reader Advisory: Work in Progress label. The idea isn’t to tell you that I’ve published something I consider to be unfinished. Instead, it’s a simple reminder I want to attach to my work for three reasons:

One

The first reader of my work is way too harsh. That’d be yours truly. So I decided to come up with a small visual reminder to keep having fun while writing — and that there comes a time when I just have to let go and publish. Sort of what I tried to communicate in The Struggle:

At some point, it is probably wise to come to terms with the fact that the best we can do is a work in progress.

Of course, there’s always room for improvement, but that will have to be worked into whatever comes next.

Two

It serves as a somewhat tongue-in-cheek visual cue for the reader that, as the author, I’ve done my part. Now it’s your turn to make an effort — hopefully while getting some fun out of whatever you’re here for.

Three

I couldn’t help myself but to come up with a label that allows me to spell RAW with the first letters — especially when thinking about a piece like Awareness. That’s some raw shit right there! Come to think of it, I still haven’t fully digested that one. And sure, the interview seems more half-baked than raw, but it serves as the foundation for my next piece — currently probably being overcooked…
