elusive wordsmith
An evolution of the “elusive wordsmith” logo, from its initial concept to
the final and now retired design.

1. The Original

Inspired by walks in nature and listening to music, a bit of research led to the thinking man (opens in a new tab) and a vinyl record (opens in a new tab) . Inkscape (opens in a new tab) was used to combine both and create the finished logo. I had also used the same approach to create illustrations for Awareness before updating them (one of the original illustrations is still around).

2. Refining the Style

With the arrival of Stable Diffusion (opens in a new tab) v1.5 and ControlNet (opens in a new tab) , it became possible to feasibly create my own designs. Admittedly, the original charm is lost, but this was more about the new possibilities to create my own illustrations than to actually improve upon the idea. SD1.5 was also used to create the original illustrations for Finding Purpose, which I started writing in January 2023, a couple of months before the release of SDXL (opens in a new tab) (used later on for a few refinements).

3. The Final Attempt

With SDXL (opens in a new tab) being the improvement I was looking for in Stable Diffusion v.1.5, it was time for another experiment. At this point, however, I also moved too far away from the original logo. After a bit of reflection, I decided to retire the idea for a logo altogether. What remains is an ability to create my own designs and illustrations thanks to these first attempts serving as the ideal training ground.
